If your child's 5th birthday is between 1 September 2025 and 31 August 2026 then you will need to apply for a place at First, Infant or Primary School.

Applying for a place in Reception Class

The School Admissions Team at Staffordshire County Council allocate all school Reception class places - for further details on the admissions process including admission criteria, catchment areas, appeals etc

Joining School In Years 1-6

St Mary’s has well developed pastoral systems that help children who choose to join the school settle in quickly. If you have moved into the area or are considering moving your child to St Mary’s the process is outlined below.

We welcome in-year admissions to all year groups. The process for in-year admissions is not led centrally by the County Council Admissions Team.  In the first instance, we would recommend that you contact us directly to arrange a time to come and look around and have a chat with the headteacher. You will then need to submit an in-year admissions form and return it to the school office.

If a place is available and your application is successful you will be notified as soon as possible.  If you are unsuccessful you have the right to appeal and the appeal timetable can be found below.

Pupil Induction

Once a place has been formally offered, please contact the school to arrange a further visit and/or a start date.  There will be opportunity then for you to meet your child/children’s new teachers and find out about class routines.  If your child joins midyear, in their first few weeks they will be assessed and their needs identified.  The class teacher will then arrange a meeting with you to discuss your child’s induction and short term targets. We aim to make transitions for children as easy as possible to help them to settle quickly.
